I had just turned 16 when Monster Magnet's Powertrip was released. "Space Lord" was on the radio constantly all summer, and it became a favorite song.
I didn't have many CDs because I never had a CD player, but I had a computer so I eventually decided to buy a bunch of favorite-song CDs, and Powertrip was among them. I played the album a lot for a while. Knowing that it would offend and scare certain people, which I found funny, I advertised the fact that "Space Lord" was the greatest song ever (as if I would know)... up until I heard "Prison Sex" by Tool and changed the verdict.
I abandoned the music I chose to listen to at the time within a year or two, most sooner, so I had to eventually re-visit Monster Magnet. Doing so, I discovered that their older music pleased my ears and mind much more than anything on Powertrip, regardless of how close it was linked to my teenage years. Still, some of the Powertrip songs stick in my mind.
Thus, today's song is "Tractor" - a cute little pop tune about going to the county fair with a funny guy named Joe.
The visual and emotional imagery in this song is genius, and you don't ever have to be high to appreciate it. Regardless, do you really need drugs when you have Monster Magnet?
